Abstract

Discharge of the capacitor bank between two coaxial electrodes creates a plasma sheath which is then accelerated and compressed. The magnetohydrodynamic equations are solved using an explicit numerical scheme together with the electrical circuit equations. For calculation in a two-dimensional region we have used an ideal one-temperature magnetohydrodynamic plasma description. The set of hyperbolic-type partial differential equations has been solved by a two-step Lax-Wendroff scheme and for shock treatment an artifical viscosity has been added. Preliminary results of the test run are presented.
