Abstract

A finite element model for the filtration consolidation of thawing permafrost is used to analyze the problem of a buried heated oil pipeline in northern climates. Results are given for the pipe settlement, pore pressure equipotential lines, and temperature, as a function of time. It was found that the value of the surface film coefficient has a predominant effect on the rate of consolidation of thawed permafrost as well as pipe settlement.
