Abstract
Examining a well-documented case history in Western Canada sedimentary basin using two-dimensional gas chromatography (GC × GC) has produced a useful tool for fingerprinting thermochemical sulfate reduction (TSR)-affected petroleum fluids. Application of the approach and data interpretation strategies to the northeastern Jinxian Sag of Bohai Bay Basin has provided molecular evidence for TSR as a plausible source for the H 2S in the gases associated with the studied oils.
