Abstract

Two-dimensional field mapping and field correction were performed to obtain higher mass resolution for the 90 degree analyzing magnet of a new negative-ion injector at Argonne. A ray tracing calculation for the magnet was performed to minimize laborious work in finding better corrections. As a result, we introduced four pairs of iron shims to correct the pole boundary curvature in the entrance and exit. Comparisons between the calculations and the results of beam tests are discussed.
