Abstract

Artificial ultra-thin (1–7 monolayers) films of V (100)p(1 × 1) on Ag(100) are studied by electron capture spectroscopy and found to be ferromagnetic, with a surface Curie temperature T Cs depending on film thickness. The critical behavior of the magnetization of the topmost layer is found to be identical to that of the two-dimensional Ising ferromagnet.
