TWO CASES OF SPONTANEOUS DISSECTION OF THE ABDOMINAL AORTA

Abstract

We experienced two cases of spontaneous abdominal aortic dissection indepenent of trauma or catheter operation. Case 1 had a chronic dissection without symptoms. Enlargement of the aorta was pointed out in follow up CT films. The case 2 had an acute dissection presented as an acute back pain. Both cases were infrarenal aortic dissection with reentry located in the right superficial femoral artery and in the left internal iliac artery, respectively. In these two cases enhanced CT scan supplied useful information for the diagnosis of aortic dissection and also provided anatomical data as the sites of entry and reentry and the extent of dissection. Replacement was carried out and the recovery was uneventful in both cases. In this institution surgical treatment is indicated for cases with rupture, progression of the dissection, enlargement of the cases with rupture, progression of the dissection, enlargement of the aneurysm and visceral or limb ischemia. And we also recommend surgery for asymptomatic cases of chronic dissections.
