Abstract

Annular pancreas, in which pancreatic tissue encircle the second portion of the duodenum, is due to an abnormal development in the embryonic stage. We made a preopeartive diagnosis of annular pancreas in adults and report two cases in which surgery was performed. Case 1. A female (19) came to the hospital with chief complaints of epigastralgia, nausea and vomiting. Case 2. A male (20) came to the hospital with chief complaints of epigastralgia, back pain, nausea and vomiting. Both cases were diagnosed as annular pancreas examination by hypotonic duodenography, gastroduodenal fiberscopy, ERCP, and abdominal CT scan. We operated on them and they were cured. Six years have passed after the operation in case 1, and four years have passed in case 2. No recurrence signs of have been seen. We further reviewed previously reported 31 cases of adult annular pancreas that were diagnosed before or during surgery.
