Abstract

Accessory breast cancer is rare. Two cases of accessory breast cancer are described here. [Case 1] A 58-year-old woman was referred to the hospital after biopsy of a right axillary tumor at elsewhere. The excisional biopsy of the tumor revealed papillo-tubular carcinoma with mammary gland, without connection to the proper mammary gland. Modified radical mastectomy was performed. No lymph node metastasis was recognized. She is doing well without any evidence of recurrence, as of 6 years after the operation. [Case 2] A 64-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital because of a right axillary tumor. The excisional biopsy of the tumor revealed scirrhous carcinoma with mammary gland, without connection to the proper mammary gland. A wide local resection with axillary and subclavian lymph node dissection was performed. Six axillary lymph nodes were involved. She is doing well without any evidence of recurrence, as of 7 months after the operation. Sixty-five reported cases of accessory breast cancer in the Japanese literature, including these cases, are reviewed and discussed.
