Abstract
Currently adaptation of algebra for meaningful learning experiences for children with the numerous enthusiastic innovations (Cuisenaire rods, 2+ □ = 7, etc.) is being explored. The purpose of tllis study is to define two of the fundamental algebraic concepts involved. Just what are the children learning when 6+a=8 is used? What segment of algebra does this useful skill explore?
