Abstract

It is suggested that alternate views of the conceptual category of systems are possible. Set-theoretic and constructive definitions of the mathematical sets, that constitute a system, are considered. The two approaches are argued to carry fundamentally different epistemological assumptions. In particular, in a constructive approach, changes of the basic objects of systems are possible. Potential consequences of these conditions are discussed.
