Abstract

The traditional electrical utility system (EUS) suffers from different severeties to settle down the better power quality (PQ). These are voltage unbalancing, low power factor, harmonic content and improper voltage regulation etc. These above remedies play the most imperative task in EUS. The importance of the Distributed static compensator (DSTATCOM) is selected by the control algorithm used for extraction of refernce current components. In this research, two kinds of the topologies such as two level and three level are implemented in the DSTATCOM for compensation. Particularly, icosθ control algorithm has been implemented to generate proper switching signals for the three-phase voltage source inverter (VSI) based DSTATCOM. Moreover, a comparative analysis is made between the two level and three level based DSTATCOM under various non linear loading conditions, to check the effectiveness of the DSTATCOM. Observations are resolved using MATLAB/Simulink and power system toolbox by considering benchmark value of the IEEE-519-2014 grid code.
