Abstract

By introducing air water two phase flow model, this article uses k-? turbulent model to simulate the complicated two & three dimensional turbulent overflow on the surface of spillway containing frusta. The unstructured grid is used to treat the irregular boundary and the volume of fluid method (VOF) for water air two-phase flow is introduced into the iteration of calculation. The curvilinear free surface, velocity and pressure distributions are obtained through the two dimensional and three dimensional numerical simulations. The calculated two dimensional and three dimensional results are in good agreement with the experimental data, especially, compared with two dimensional simulation .three dimensional simulation fit physical experiment results better. So the proposed method can simulate exactly two and three dimensional flow for controlled discharging condition of spillway containing frusta and offer a firm foundation on calculating controlled discharging condition of spillway .The simulation approach can provide a possible optimization tool for designing spillways.
