Abstract

Ovarian cysts in the newborn and infant period are rare. Doran 5 first described ovarian cysts in infancy in 1889. He reported bilateral ovarian cysts in a 7-month fetus. Power 16 in 1898 reported the first infant in whom the cyst was successfully removed. We have been able to find only 25 reports of ovarian cysts in infants under one year of age, as is shown in the table. Only 4 of these patients had torsion of the cyst. The patient reported upon here had an ovarian cyst with torsion in the newborn period. Report of Case A female infant was born at Clarkson Hospital on Sept. 12, 1958, to a primiparous mother.
