Abstract
AbstractOne of the nature’s worst calamity is Drought. Any type of Drought affects the economy of the country, whether it is agricultural drought, meteorological or hydrological drought. In India there are certain regions which face droughts continually, one such region is Marathwada region of Maharashtra which is continuously reeling from agricultural drought from last few decades. Gangapur region located on the west of Aurangabad is a Taluka place which covers total land area 130,846 ha. In this paper we have analyzed the drought conditions over the Gangapur region of Aurangabad district from last two decades i.e. from May 2000 to Apr 2020. The drought analysis is done for the two major cropping cycles in India namely Kharif and Rabi. The multi temporal analysis using MODIS based Vegetation Condition Index (VCI) is done to find the drought onset period, duration of drought and severity of drought. We found that VCI proves to be useful in detecting the drought conditions for both the crop cycles efficiently.KeywordsVegetation condition indexDroughtTemporal analysisMachine learningRemote sensing
