Abstract

25 communication obstacles to the success of family planning programs are discussed in a monograph published by the Community and Family Study Center at the University of Chicago. The 1st chapter is devoted to irrelevant communication in family planning and what can be done about it. The 25 obstacles are presented with a discussion and a list of solutions to the problem. Some of the obstacles listed are: 1) fears of permanent damage to health from prolonged use of the pill IUD or other contraceptives; 2) negative influence of peers and elders; 3) lack of awareness of family planning services; 4) contraceptive fatigue carelessness and negligence; 5) anxieties about contraceptive failure; and 6) high infant mortality.
