Abstract

ABSTRACTMarket data clearly shows a growing user preference for streamed media along with a rapid decline in the use of physical media by consumers. In an effort to quantify this trend on a local level, circulation data and fund expenditures for physical media were analyzed along with usage statistics for streamed media databases at the University of Kansas. Data collected will be used to inform acquisitions and subscription renewals going forward. Given the increasing availability of content in streamed databases and issues of access versus ownership in preserving the cultural record, librarians must decide how to responsibly spend allocated funds for physical media.
