Abstract

This article aims to identify actions for tourist exploitation of archaeological sites linked to pre-colonial traditions in Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil). Using the qualitative approach, it presents and discusses empirical and bibliographic data related to the development of tourist actions in the sites that are part of commercialized tourist itineraries. The discussion of the cases in question indicated the importance of private initiative and tourist mediation as consolidators of actions. In Rio Grande do Sul, archaeological tourism is highlighted in historical sites, but has been promoted in some pre-colonial sites. Archeological tourism emerges in Brazil as a possibility of extroverting the archaeological heritage and has been gaining attention in the main archaeological centers of the country.
