Abstract

This paper investigates the turbulent combustion of a gas in a vessel with various unsealing conditions. The experiments were performed with a vessel of volume 21.5 dm/sup 3/ with an escape hole of diameter 50 mm. The vessel was joined by means of a pipe of diameter 50 mm and length 1.83 or 2.35 m to a receiving vessel of volume 50 dm/sup 3/. An acetone-air mixture of approximately stoichiometric concentration by reference to the partial pressures was prepared in the vessel. The mixture was ignited at atmospheric pressure and temperature at the center of the vessel by means of a high-voltage inductive spark. It is determined that the pipe and the receiving vessel have substantial effects on the explosion dynamics in vapor-air mixtures in the vessel after the seal breaks.
