Abstract
The curve of line-width correlation has been applied to OH lines in the spectrum of alpha Orionis, and the characteristic turbulence and thermal velocities in its atmosphere have been determined. The results imply that the line-formation region for OH absorption in this star is in a state of turbulence, the precise nature of which remains unknown. The characteristic size of the observed turbulent ?eddies,' however, is less than the dimension of the line-formation region in the atmosphere.
