Abstract
In a high-β plasma ion cyclotron radius, dispersion forms a trailing wave train for a perpendicular fast shock. Collisionless dissipation is provided by the three-wave decay of the wave train into very oblique fast and parallel Alfven waves. Particle thermalization results from Landau damping of oblique fast wave turbulence. The shock damping length to three-wave decay is many ion cyclotron radii. Undamped Alfven turbulence should persist far downstream from the shock.
