Earlier work has implicated the neurotransmitter GABA in controlling forebrain progenitor proliferation. In this issue of Neuron, Everlien etal. (2022) demonstrate that diazepam binding inhibitor acts to keep the neurogenesis-promoting effect of GABA at bay.
