Abstract

The voltage control performance of a wind power plant is dependent of the controller tuning and interaction of nearby power plants. With the trend of high gains and fast voltage control response time it is increasingly important to consider nearby power plants in the voltage controller tuning process. This paper presents the theoretical background of the faster voltage control dynamics in multiplant operation mode. Multiplant operation mode must be considered in the initial tuning of the power plant to mitigate ringing and overshoot. In the worst case ignoring nearby wind power plants can lead to unstable operation. Fingrid has created an initial tuning process which considers parallel power plants, presented in this paper.
