Abstract

Polarization modulation instability (PMI) has been utilised to generate amplitude modulated light pulses where the modulation frequency is continuously tuneable from 3.5 THz to 7.0 THz. The tuneability is achieved by varying the tension in a low-birefringent single-mode fiber which is wrapped around a spool.
