Abstract

In this article, we report spectral studies and optical nonlinearities of optical grade thin films fabricated from nano colloidal solutions of Ge20Te75Bi5 chalcogenide glass. Emission peaks of varying concentrations of Ge20Te75Bi5 nanocomposites shift from 426 nm to 492 nm. Bandgap Eg also varies in the proportion tunable to emission peaks depending on the grain size of the films. The existence of reverse saturable absorption (RSA) is confirmed by the open aperture z-scan traces of nanocomposites with a valley-like pattern. Enhancement of third-order optical nonlinearities in Ge20Te75Bi5 chalcogenide nano colloids studied using the z-scan technique can be exploited to improve the desirable features for usage in nonlinear optical systems.
