Abstract
Conditions and characteristics of wavelength tunability of 1.8 μm GaInAsSb pulsed diode lasers for mid-infrared molecular spectroscopy have been investigated. The region of single-frequency tunable lasing and tuning rates have been measured from 170 K to 300 K heatsink temperatures. It has been indicated that the region of single frequency tunable lasing is determined by the current heating rate and cavity eigenmode spacing. High speed tuning over 11 cm −1 μs −1 has been achieved at room temperatures. The modulation rate decreased down to 0.09 cm −1 μs −1 with cooling down to 170 K. Tuning ranges without mode hopping as high as 12 cm −1 can be realized. This exceeds continuous wave tunability parameters of GaInAsSb lasers. It is shown that tuning region range can exceed mode spacing.
