Abstract

In this research, we report a novel design of a tunable bandpass liquid crystal frequency selective surface resonating at Ka-band, which has a frequency tunability, closed to 5% of its center frequency. An LC-FSS prototype has fabricated by normal print circuit board (PCB) technology and a Merck-E7 LC material. The performance measurement has been conducted in a chamber through a pair of a transmitter and a receiver antenna. The measurement results have shown that a maximum frequency tunability close to 5% has been observed and the maximum frequency deviations were all less than 5%. These experimental results have verified the correctness of the numerical simulations.
