Abstract

We proposed a tunable bi-direction terahertz vortex beam generator based on Dirac semimetals (DSMs) and Vanadium dioxide (VO2). The insulator–metal phase transition of VO2 occurs by changing the external temperature, thus realizing a switch between the transmissive vortex beam and the reflective vortex beam. We design a vortex beam generator with topological charges −1, −2, +3 in transmission mode and achieve tunable terahertz vortex beam from 0.89 THz to 1.13 THz by changing the Fermi energy level of the DSMs. In addition, the proposed metasurface generates a broadband terahertz vortex beam with topological charges −1, −2, +3 from 1.0 THz to 1.8 THz when VO2 is in the metal state.
