Abstract
Communication between cancer cells and the surrounding environment affects cancer development by numerous mechanisms leading to the inhibition or weakening of the immune system activity. Despite substantial evidence addressing the role of immune cells and the immune response, immunotherapy dedicated for patients with cancers is manifested by limited effectiveness. This review discusses selected immune-related aspects such as Th2 cell action or specific modification of immune cells and how they can be employed to design new and more effective approaches in the immunotherapy of gastrointestinal cancers.
