Studies in murine cancer models have demonstrated the phenotypic and functional divergence of neutrophils; however, their role in pro- or anti-tumor responses in human remains elusive. In this issue of Cancer Cell, Singhal etal. report the existence of specialized subsets of neutrophils in human lung cancer with diverging functions.
