Abstract

MZnEt 4 complexes, in which M = Ca, Ba, Sr, were studied by NMR spectroscopy, cryoscopy and UV spectroscopy, and the nature of these compounds in solution was elucidated. Exchange phenomena were observed. NMR spectroscopy provided evidence for the presence of CaEt 2 in cyclopentane solution, as well as for delocalization of valence electrons, which was explained on the basis of the electron-deficient bond theory. A tetrahedral structure for the ZnEt 2− 4 was proposed.
