Abstract

A parametric study of energy levels of Ne I configurations 2p 53s, 2p 54s, 2p 55s, 2p 53d, 2p 54d, 2p 53p, 2p 54p and 2p 55p is performed. This study takes into account partially near and far configuration interactions. Based on that preliminary study, a semi-empirical treatment of the hyperfine structure is then undertaken first in a nonrelativistic scheme neglecting correlations; these particular effects are taken into account in a second part of this paper, and they appear to be relevant. A new value of the quadrupole moment, including Sternheimer corrections, is then given: Q = 0.101 barn.
