Abstract

The first acidity constant of dithizone in N-methylpyrrolidone was found to be p K A=6.3±0.4 at ionic strength 0.1. The complex formed with mercury(II) in this solvent was shown to have the formula Hg(HDz) 2, the dissociation constant being p K=20.7±1.3 at ionic strength 0.1. The spectrophotometric characteristics of the two compounds studied are discussed.
