Abstract

AbstractThe infrared spectra of cis and trans 1,2‐dimethyl‐, 1,2‐diethyl‐, 1,2‐methylethyl‐and 1,2‐methylpropylcyclopentane isomers have been recorded in the frequency range from 400 to 3000 cm–1. Assignments of some fundamentals are possible in a few cases when comparison of the spectra with those of cycloalkanes and other paraffinic hydrocarbons is straightforward. Cis and trans isomers are distinguishable by specific low frequency bands and corresponding combination bands. Other important differences between the infrared spectra of these isomers have been pointed out, mainly vibrations of methyl groups.
