Abstract

AbstractThis article analyzes the contents of four French culture and civilization journals published in the United States and the United Kingdom: Contemporary French Civilization; French Cultural Studies; French Politics, Culture & Society; and Modern and Contemporary France. The topics covered in these journals are examined in light of their editorial board and are compared to those of articles published in The French Review, a generalist journal that has existed in the United States since 1927. Some key articles published over the decades enable us to measure the evolution that has taken place in the teaching of civilization, a discipline which is often associated with cultural studies and is still the subject of scrutiny.RésuméCet article analyse le contenu de quatre revues de culture et civilisation françaises publiées aux États-Unis et au Royaume-Uni: Contemporary French Civilization; French Cultural Studies; French Politics, Culture & Society; et Modern and Contemporary France.
