Abstract

The sensitive plant Mimosa pudica is made insensitive by a brief treatment with colchicine. A high concentration of colchicine binding protein is present in the fresh actively moving leaves of M. pudica. This protein was partially characterized and compared with the animal brain tubulin. This colchicine binding activity is very low in the insensitive variety of Mimosa, namely Mimosa rubricaulis.
