Abstract

Tubules are observable within the cisternae of the granular endoplasmic reticulum of the secretory cells of the pars intermedia of the toad hypophysis. Not all cells present these tubular formations; the number of tubules and the number of cells exhibiting them depend upon whether the animals are kept in darkness or are exposed to light before sacrifice. In animals exposed to intense illumination, tubular material within the cisternae of endoplasmic reticulum is more frequently found. This fact suggests that these tubules are secretory material.
