Abstract

Recently the number of detected superficial esophageal squamous cell carcinomas (SCC) has been increasing mainly because of endoscopic technology development. Even if we find superficial cancer, we have to perform additional treatment when we find the pathological depth of the lesion has invaded into the submucosal layer. At present it is still difficult to diagnose the depth of superficial esophageal SCC accurately. We investigated the depth diagnosis ability of various modalities (normal endoscopy, magnifying endoscopy with NBI, and X-ray) for squamous esophageal superficial carcinoma.
