Abstract

Neoadjuvant or definitive chemoradiation therapy is used to treat patients with locally advanced esophageal cancer or patients with esophageal cancer who are not suitable candidates for surgery. Image guided radiation therapy (IMRT) allows the delivery of high dose radiation to the target lesion with precision; however, this is dependent upon accurate localization and tracking of the lesion. Respiratory motion results in significant movement of the esophageal tumor, making localization a challenge.
