Abstract

Dual modality drainage (DMD) of symptomatic walled-off pancreatic necrosis (WOPN) involves the initial placement of a percutaneous drainage catheter followed immediately by the endoscopic placement of two trans-enteric stents into the necroma. The endoscopic portion of the procedure is typically performed under endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) control. Our group has recently shown this approach to be successful in avoiding both surgery and the development of pancreatico-cutaneous fistulae while maintaining single-digit mortality rates.
