Abstract

L-tryptophan was linked with an outbreak of eosinophilic myalgia syndrome (EMS) accounting for at least 1580 clinical cases and 38 deaths [1]. This editorial examines the misguided linkage of L-tryptophan with EMS, presents the facts as they have emerged and recommends steps to avoid future health risks linked to contaminants introduced during manufacture of foods or dietary supplements.
