Abstract

This article looks at a study on team performance and the importance of trust within the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). The study explored the effect of players' trust in their leader on team performance, with data being collected from Division I and Division III NCAA basketball teams. Team performance was found to be enhanced by the trust of players in their coach. The validity of theories suggesting trust is of extreme importance to team performance is questioned. A study of team performance within the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) supports the theory that teams perform better when they trust their leader and teammates. Members may be more inclined to attribute the team performance to the actions of the leader due to their inability of attributing team performance to specific individuals.
