Abstract
President Donald J. Trump on Nov. 7 formally nominated Dan Brouillette as US secretary of energy. Brouillette, currently deputy secretary of energy, would replace Rick Perry. Brouillette is a strong proponent of US oil and natural gas development and is expected to continue the Trump administration’s push for fossil fuel production and use. Before becoming the Department of Energy’s second in command, Brouillette was an executive at the United Services Automobile Association, a financial institution, and at Ford. He has also held positions in government. He was chief of staff to the US House of Representatives Committee on Energy and Commerce from 2003 to 2004 and was assistant secretary of energy for congressional and intergovernmental affairs from 2001 to 2003.
