Abstract

In 1984 Seiko Communications Systems began development of a communications technology developed specifically to provide personal communications for consumers. The High Speed Data System (HSDS) is a fixed and mobile terminal-oriented protocol designed to maximize flexibility in terminal performance, redefine the concept of infrastructure cost, minimize terminal complexity, and utilize the only worldwide wireless This paper presents an overview of HSDS and its implementation as an FM subcarrier-based wireless communications system from the perspective of personal Through the concepts of infrastructure, terminal design, data throughput and worldwide availability, HSDS demonstrates its unique viability of one-way data transport as a vehicle for truly personal communications.
