Abstract

AbstractWhile the eternal processions of God the Son and God the Holy Spirit are integral to orthodox Christian teaching on the Trinity, some philosophical theologians have recently debated whether the teaching of the eternal processions is necessary or even coherent with other elements of orthodox trinitarianism. This essay focuses on the eternal procession of the Son and attempts to show something of the scriptural logic behind the confession of the Son’s eternal procession and its coherence with central components of orthodox trinitarianism, particularly the equality of God the Son with God the Father.
