Abstract

The aim of the article entitled: Difficulties, needs and experiences of parents staying in the hospital during the child's hospitalization - on the example of research in the Provincial Specialist Children's Hospital in Olsztyn, is to present qualitative research on the experiences of parents related to the hospitalization of the child and accompanying him during his stay in the pediatric ward. Theoretical consideration includes a brief description of the Specialist Children's Hospital in Olsztyn and a description of the spaces for children's activity in it. The issue of hospitalization of children was also raised. The issues were presented in the form of the following questions: How do parents evaluate the stay in the pediatric ward with their children? What kind of help and support were offered to parents during their children's hospitalization? How do parents evaluate the equipment of the pediatric ward and the adaptation of the hospital to the needs of the youngest patients? In the theoretical part, the analytical and synthetic method of the literature of the subject was used, while in the research part, a qualitative research procedure was used: the case study method and the technique of narrative interview focused on the problem and the observation technique. Reflection on the issues raised indicates the fact that the currently functioning Children's Hospital in Olsztyn tries to create the most convenient conditions of stay for its patients and their families, and parents highly evaluate staying with children in a medical facility. The conclusions drawn from the research indicate that the respondents appreciate the support and help offered by the medical staff and the way hospital conditions are adapted to the needs of children and adolescents. The research and its results presented in the article are only selective, which does not allow generalization of the results. Key words: child, parent, disease, hospitalization, hospital
