Abstract

Dysphonia is a frequent disorder in children, mainly in boys. Larynx examination by indirect laryngoscopy or nasofibroscopy may reveal a laryngeal tumour. A biopsy of this lesion under general anaesthesia will precise the histological diagnosis. Papillomatosis is the most frequent type of laryngeal tumour in childhood. Most dysphonias in children are due to vocal misuse. They may be improved by a change of vocal habits, with or without the aid of a logopedist. Laryngeal microsurgery is rarely necessary in childhood. Articulation problems such as velar insufficiency need also speech therapy.
