Abstract

Three mathematical terms in the Coligny Calendar ? We propose to identify the annual notations brigiomu riuri et ociomu riuri of the Gaulish calendar as wedging marks and synchronizers between lunar year and the zodiacal solar course, whence the proposed translations and etymologies. Considering that the associated notation devor iug also has a mathematical function, we can propose to draw thither a blocking wedge for the Gaulish astronomical year. The latter reveals to be consistent not only with the comparisons already proposed for some of the Gaulish month-names, but also with the structure of the Insular Celtic year.
