Abstract

The primary component of the solar thermal system is solar collectors with flat plate collector (FPC) or evacuated tube collector (ETC) the most common ones. In the household solar hot water systems (SHWS) based on FPC are mostly used because of the low cost and minimum maintenance. Also, collector's outlet temperature matches with most household hot water requirement. The performance of the SHWS varies with the change in environmental conditions (Atmospheric temperature, solar radiation, wind velocity). In this paper, a domestic SHWS has been modelled using TRNSYS 18. The long term performance of the system is evaluated for Indian climatic condition and presented in the article. The performance parameters such as useful energy gain of the collector, collector hourly and monthly thermal efficiency are presented and discussed.
