Abstract

This article aims to take a look at general profile of journalists producing science technology and innovation news and identifying trends of journalism in this field by addressing journalists’ news production practice. In addition to these goals, another desirable target is to reveal newspapers’ views on science, technology and innovation journalism. Through quantitative and qualitative research, science, technology and innovation news sub-headings, (health, energy, information technology, environment, space, genetics, etc..), the language used in these news and the preferences of the journalists and the newspapers for which they work are going to be analyzed. The quality of news sources as a fundamental basis of news creation, the level of their relationship with reporters and the extent of conflicting views taking place on news are explored, as well. Working conditions of news reporters (wages, working time, working conditions, etc..) is one of the side issues of this study. Additionally, relationship of science, technology and innovation journalism with the public relations and advertising industry will be analyzed. Furthermore, we will try to define features required to create an ideal science ,technology and innovation news. This article is based on the analysis of data from questionnaires conducted with 75 journalists working on this issue around Ankara, Istanbul, Izmir and in-depth interviews conducted with 22 of them.
