Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to examine the graduate thesis on the topic of health literacy in Turkey. It is thought that the graduate thesis may be useful in order to identify the problems of health institutions and public health. For this reason, in this study, it is aimed to draw attention to health literacy by providing the appearance of theses on health literacy and to provide information to those who will study on this issue. Material and Methods: In this study, theses obtained from the thesis database of Council of Higher Education were examined. Theses were examined according to various variables (level, language, university, etc.). Abstracts of the theses whose full text has not been reached were examined. Results: In this study, it was determined that a total of 91 subjects were investigated in 68 theses dealing with health literacy. It was determined that most of the theses were written in 2018, most of the theses (91.2%) used questionnaire as data collection tool, the patients were in the first place in the research group of the theses, health literacy level and determinants were in the first place in terms of subject distribution. The number of theses on health literacy has increased significantly in recent years. Conclusion: Considering the multidisciplinary and multi-stakeholder structure of health literacy, the issue of health literacy can be studied especially on disadvantaged groups in further studies. These disadvantaged groups include the poor, the elderly, those with low social status, immigrants and physically disabled people.
